Kathryn Orzech
Currently I am a sixth-year graduate student in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Arizona. My focus is on biocultural and medical anthropology and my dissertation project is a biocultural investigation of sleep in adolescents conducted in a local high school. I am also interested in topics such as antibiotic resistance, women's health, and the health and health care use of migrant groups that have settled in a new country. My masters project (completed December 2003) looked at the possibility of a relationship between the menstrual cycle and diabetic control in Type 2 diabetic women. I received my B.A. in Anthropology from the College of William and Mary in Virginia in May 1997. Between college and graduate school I worked as an assistant database administrator at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, MD, so I became interested in database management and the usefulness of web tools at that point. The Tree of Life web brings together my interests in biology (evolutionary theory and phylogeny) and technology.
